On iPhone, a live wallpaper is not a video playing in the background, which is why the battery cost is far smaller than the internet claims. Here is what genuinely drains your screen budget, why the Android answer is different, and the four settings that matter more than your wallpaper ever will.

Search for whether live wallpapers drain your battery and you will find hundreds of confident articles, most of which are describing Android and quietly assuming iPhone works the same way. It does not, and that single misunderstanding is the source of most of the bad advice.

What a Live Wallpaper Actually Is on iPhone

Shorten Auto-Lock. Thirty seconds instead of five minutes removes a surprising number of minutes of pointless screen on time each day.
